My Role in a Nutshell

As a UX Designer in 2021, my primary focus was on user interface design, backed by comprehensive user research. This entailed detailed interviews with teacher-users and comparative analyses of similar apps to understand their social features.

User-Centric Approach: Understanding and Empowering Educators

Our analytics revealed teachers as the primary users. By engaging in in-depth conversations, we uncovered their aspirations and challenges, shaping our approach to enhance the app's functionality.

Redefining User Interaction: From Individualistic to Collaborative

The existing individual-centric experience of Halo AR evolved as we proposed integrating social functionalities like profiles, feeds, and connections. This strategic move aimed to boost user engagement, increase app exposure, and support LightUp's transition to a paid model.

Design Innovations: Enhancing Accessibility and Engagement

popular sign-in options like Facebook and Google for ease of access. Our video feed design became a central feature, showcasing diverse content created by users, promoting interaction and community building.

Simplifying Access with Login and Sign-Up Screens

In order to streamline the user onboarding process and simplify user access, we meticulously designed the login and sign-up screens of the Halo AR app.

The addition of Facebook and Google login options modernizes the app, keeping it in line with popular, user-friendly practices. This change also reinforces our commitment to enhancing user experience at every level, starting from the moment they access the Halo AR app.

Video Feed

The video feed showcases the diverse halos created by users. It allows teachers to share their content and students to view, comment, and draw inspiration from it. The feed includes user-profile images, their names, and a brief description of the shared content for quick browsing. Users can like, share, and comment on each post, thus stimulating interaction and engagement.

The video feed's design aims to highlight the diversity of content and encourage the sharing of ideas. By featuring user-generated content prominently, we hope to inspire creativity, foster a sense of community, and enhance the overall user experience within the Halo AR app.

Elucidating Content Creation: Simplifying Complex Processes

The content creation process, termed 'Creating a Halo,' was reimagined to be intuitive yet rich in capabilities, allowing users to overlay various media over 'action triggers,' adding depth to educational content.

Introducing User Profiles: Streamlining Content Access

We envisioned user profiles that organized content in a user-friendly manner, enhancing content management and accessibility, thus fostering a collaborative learning environment.

Conclusion: Lessons Learned and Future Excitement

This project with Halo AR by LightUp was a deep dive into the potential of AR in education. It reinforced the importance of understanding user needs and simplifying complex processes for an intuitive experience. As we look forward, the integration of social features in AR applications holds immense promise for enhancing engagement and enriching learning experiences.
